Designing and building a website for others can be a long and tedious process but when it comes to creating a site for myself, it took no time at all. The origins of this site started using my brother’s portfolio, andrewsearns.com, as a template to expedite the process. After copying over the base, changing the color scheme and fonts was the next step. I selected my favorite color, red, and my favorite font, Helvetica. The accent font I selected was Fara Code, to show the importance of coding in my life.
Getting into the actual design of the site was quite simple. First, I hopped over to illustrator to create the logo, once again using a sharp, code-style font to symbolize my coding background, and added a sailboat to depict my love for sailing. Moving back over to the site I wanted to keep the connections between my sailing and programming, to do this I added the wave dividers and images of myself. From there It was a breeze to create the rest of the site.
The last thing the site needed was some copy that better suited who I am. Unfortunately, I am not a very strong writer so this was the hardest part of the entire build. Slowly, but surely, I completed the copy throughout the site. The last step was mobile optimization, thanks to Elementor’s building system it took only minutes to have the site fully mobile optimized. With that, the site was complete, only needing some minor edits here and there.
Coming back to the site over a year later, I realized the site needed some extra love. Currently, I am working on a complete redesign of the site which will be done by the end of April.
